Wedding and Festival Season
Too much happening to be able to write a journal… at least, I wrote some journal pages but haven’t had time to scan and load them here.
It is wedding season, and July also brings Frome Festival. This year dates have coincided, and it’s impossible to be in two places at once. In addition, it has been the same set of dates for the Year 3 Romans project, which needs a large amount of parental input, and there have been other end of term events resulting in slightly headless chicken behaviour and a request to the teacher for an extension on the project time as if it were a thesis.
Two July weddings in very different parts of the country; both making me think what a beautiful country we live in.
Rolvenden Barn near Hastings in Sussex was a charming countryside location, decorated with yards of pretty bunting (always a nice addition to a drawing), made by the mother of the bride.
Yorebridge House in Bainbridge, deep in the Yorkshire dales, was elegant and welcoming, despite the bucketing rain that forced me to sit in the car on arrival, until it subsided. Luckily, by the time the ceremony had taken place the sun had come out and it was lovely enough for the guests to be able to enjoy the champagne reception outside surrounded by exquisite views of rolling hills.
This was my first visit to the dales, and although it was a fair old journey from Somerset, I hope I’ll have an opportunity to go back.
It was a bit of a scramble trying to tidy my workspace in time for Frome Festival, as the weeks preceding it were so busy. Not least as I had to donate my work hours to my husband who needed to make two Orreries for exhibitions at the Bishop’s Palace in Wells and another for the Blue House for Frome Festival. This was a project he’d wanted to do for a long time, and although he’d still call the results ‘working prototypes’, they looked terrific.
The glass planets were made by Sonja Klingler, one of the talented craftspeople in Frome, and a good friend.
